Snow Q Past Event

On Winter solstice December 21st 2018 we were thrilled to invite you to our first event

WHAT WAS IT?
Since June 21st/Summer Solstice we had been researching and developing material for Snow Q – our project to re-imagine Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Snow Queen along contemporary themes. The culmination of this process was a work-in-progress collaborative installation which welcomed your feedback. We have recorded your feedback in a separate post. It featured poetry, performance, music, art and video. Some performances were live with an actor and a musician and some pre-recorded.

WHERE?
The installation took place in:
the basement of the Regency Town House Annexe
10 Brunswick Sq, Brighton and Hove BN3 1EH.

This amazing, atmospheric historic building is un-renovated and unheated. We recommended you wear suitably warm clothing and luckily it was a clear dry night for everyone!

ACCESS
Access was limited given the historic nature of the venue where the installation took place. This is an issue we will be addressing in future performances and installations.

THANK YOU to all our partners and sponsors and to a number of individuals without whom we couldn’t have done this:
Arts Council England, Lewes Live Literature, The Regency Town House, Polish Cultural Institute, New Writing South, Marlborough Theatre, Centrala (Birmingham), European Literature Network, New Music Brighton, Older and Out, Sussex Centre for Folklore Fairy Tales and Fantasy, Synergy Community, Brighton Young Carers Group
Thank you to members of Brighton Young Carers for their artwork and voice recordings and to Anna Copley, Raf and Maya for voice recordings and to members of Older and Out for messages to younger LGBT people written on ‘fish’ – all incorporated by us in the installation.
To Glyndebourne Opera for kind loan of lighting.
To Bellerbys College Brighton & Michael Fraser for kind use of media studio facilities.

Sorry being so late in leaving feedback for Snow Q.
I loved it, it was mysterious and magical, strangely unnerving and disturbing. The actor was a joy, she made me smile and cry. The event was dreamlike, claustrophobic and I loved everything about it. The venue was perfect, oh and the mulled wine was delicious. Thanks xx

    1. Thanks so much for taking the trouble to write to us. Everyone has been so generous with their comments! I’m glad you enjoyed the experience. We have really enjoyed working together on the project and it was so exciting for us when after months of beavering away we could show what we had made. Maria
